Whiplash is one of the most common car accident injuries, with over a thousand claims being made daily – the number of car accident-related personal injury claims has increased by 50% in comparison to a decade ago, most of which are whiplash.
Unfortunately, amongst the seriously injured people claiming to cover financial implications from the injury, many people have falsely claimed for whiplash compensation – some getting away with it, some not.
The increase in claims has led to a staggering rise in insurance costs and the number of fraudulent claims being made - there’s no wonder whiplash has developed its negative reputation.
A lot of fraudulent cases have come from disreputable cold-calling firms, who’ve been getting away with ringing people up randomly and influencing thousands to make dishonourable claims. Don’t get caught in the cold-call trap, call us at Cute Injury first!
It’s been an ongoing issue, but the Ministry of Justice announced last week that there will soon be new measures to the Civil Liability Bill, with the main aim of cracking the whip on this issue - clamping down on those taking advantage of the claims system, helping motorists save on their insurance (around £35 per year – saving millions in total), and fashioning a fairer system for customers, claimants and taxpayers.
The new changes will include setting fixed amounts of compensation for whiplash injury claims and banning people from seeking to settle a claim or receiving compensation without having medical evidence to prove the severity of the injury.
As it is a topical issue, the controversy around the subject could be affecting people’s decision to claim for whiplash after a car accident – particularly those who’ve had serious cases of whiplash and suffered huge losses, despite being law-abiding drivers.
